A WORLD-PREMIERE EXPERIENCE
The San Antonio Philharmonic brings San Antonio the official world premiere of Juan Gabriel: A Philharmonic Tribute, a groundbreaking symphonic celebration honoring the life and music of one of Mexico’s most iconic artists. This historic concert series takes place September 12 & 13 at 7:30 PM and September 14 at 2:30 PM at Scottish Rite Hall.
Under the direction of award-winning Mexican conductor Felipe Tristán, newly appointed Associate Conductor of the San Antonio Philharmonic, this is his first concert leading the orchestra in his new role. The program features Juan Gabriel’s greatest hits, masterfully reimagined for full symphony orchestra, guest vocalists, and mariachis, creating an immersive, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

A WORLD-PREMIERE EXPERIENCE
Through a special licensing agreement with Virgin Music and Sony Music, audiences will experience Juan Gabriel’s original voice and image projected on stage, accompanied live by the San Antonio Philharmonic, a rare and exclusive presentation celebrating his enduring legacy.
The concert will feature a lineup of guest vocalists:
Rubén Núñez - Latin Grammy-nominated mariachi vocalist and trumpet player
Chayito Champion - Internationally acclaimed flamenco vocalist and San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame inductee
Corey Waldron - Renowned mariachi vocalist and educator
Rhonda Garcia - Trailblazing mariachi performer and mentor
Supporting the program are guest mariachi ensembles, showcasing San Antonio’s rich cultural traditions:
Mariachi Los Paisanos (UTSA), directed by Michael Acevedo
Mariachi Tecolotes (Highlands High School), directed by Haciel Arias
Mariachi Engranaje Azul (Lanier High School), directed by José Luis Núñez
Mariachi Origen y Tradición (Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center), directed by Gino Rivera

The program includes Juan Gabriel’s most beloved hits, such as:
Buenos días señor Sol, Ya lo sé que tú te vas, Así fue, Querida, Abrázame muy fuerte, Hasta que te conocí, Te lo pido por favor, Amor eterno, Noa Noa, and more.
Special arrangements are provided by legendary composer Eduardo Magallanes, who crafted Juan Gabriel’s original orchestrations, alongside arranger Erick Pico, bringing fresh, vibrant interpretations to the stage.
